Orthopaedic Consultancy
At Joint Care Clinic, we believe that when you are referred to an Orthopaedic Consultant, you should be seen by someone who is truly a specialist in their field. All of our consultants are experts in their specialties and can provide the very best care using the latest technology and techniques available.
Why might I need to see a Consultant?
In our clinic, this would happen if Physiotherapy has either not been effective, or if the Physiotherapists themselves believe that the best option for you is a consultant opinion. Alternatively you might be referred to the Consultant via your GP or other health professional.
What can a Consultant offer me?
The most obvious thing that a Consultant can offer is an expert opinion regarding your condition. This may be coupled with a number of different types of investigations, such as X-rays and scans, used to provide a more accurate diagnosis. Your consultant will then discuss the options available to you, which may be management with injection therapy, physiotherapy or surgery if required.
Our Clinics
Knee and Shoulder Clinic
Mr Rhys Williams provides a combined knee and shoulder clinic for his two specialist areas of expertise. He has a wide-ranging practice, from soft tissue and sports injuries to complex and revision surgery. Mr Williams works very closely with the physiotherapists in order to devise treatment plans and rehabilitation to enable patients to return to full function as quickly as possible. His services for the knee include meniscal surgery, partial and complete joint replacement, ligament reconstruction, chondral defects and patella alignment correction. For the shoulder, Mr Williams specialises in soft tissue stabilisation and repair, impingement and joint replacement.
Spinal Clinic
The lead consultant of the Spinal clinic is Mr Alwyn Jones, a spinal specialist surgeon providing a comprehensive assessment and treatment service for all aspects of spinal disorders. These include degenerative disease of the cervical and lumbar spine, management of disc problems, diagnostic and therapeutic injections, and the use of minimally invasive procedures and corrective surgery. The clinic runs in parallel with the Physiotherapy Clinic, with rehabilitation being seen as a vital aspect of the management of all spinal disorders.
Hip Clinic
Mr Marcellino Maheson is a pioneering surgeon in the field of hip disease having performed the world’s first computer-guided hip resurfacing operation. He is an expert in the use of minimally invasive and key-hole hip surgery, and is at the forefront of the use of ‘mega-head’ hip replacements to reduce dislocation risks, to allow unrestricted rehabilitation.
Mr Maheson has been working closely with his physiotherapist colleagues to improve the diagnosis of hip pathology in the younger population and to try and prevent the need for more major surgery in later life.
